Tom Gliatto of People magazine described it this way: “This is the best ‘family’ reality series since Here Comes Honey Boo Boo or even The Osbournes from several centuries ago.” – and this is the best criticism the show has received to date. All the reviews didn’t stop “Chrisley Knows Best” from winning the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE) Reality Breakthrough Award in the Docusoap category – the show was also nominated for a 22nd Critics’ Choice Award for Best Unstructured Reality Series in 2016 .
There have been several spin-offs of the series; the first – “According to Chrisley” – aired on September 12, 2017 starring Todd on marriage, relationships and parenting – it aired for one season before being canceled due to poor reviews. Another spin-off, titled “What’s Cooking With Julie Chrisley”, was launched on October 3, 2017, and it ran for 10 episodes following Julie’s sharing of her own recipes. On April 2, 2019, their new spin-off “Growing Up Chrisley” aired, with Chase and Savannah traveling from Nashville to Los Angeles to prove to their parents that they are independent enough – the show attracted some attention and was renewed for another season that started on August 6, 2019.
