Chappelle, David Khari Webber was born on August 24, 1973in the District of Columbia, Washington, D.C. In addition to his mother, William David Chappelle III, he also had a father who was an academic.

Dave Chappelle’s Block Party, a 2004 documentary directed by Michel Gondry, is about a rap event Chappelle held in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, which featured several rap and hip-hop acts, including a comeback performance by The Fugees.

In 1998 Dave decided to become a Muslim. In the 2020 presidential race, he backed Andrew Yang. Dave volunteers at the Seeds of Peace International Camp in Maine during the summers. It is a non-profit organization that brings together young people from once divided neighborhoods.
A star-studded lineup, including Stevie Wonder and Chance the Rapper, was assembled by him for the Gem City Shine Charity Concert in Dayton, Ohio, in August 2019. A benefit concert of the Oregon District Tragedy Fund was given in memory of the Victim of Dayton shooting on August 4, 2019. The execution earned more than $70,000 for the fund.
