By India Today Web Desk: Uttar Pradesh’s roads will be made better than those of the United States by 2024, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has promised. The Union minister spoke at the 81st session of the Indian Road Congress (IRC).

Nitin Gadkari, who announced a package of Rs 8,000 for boosting the road projects in Uttar Pradesh, was quoted by ANI as saying: “The roads of Uttar Pradesh must be made better than America before 2024. For this, Modi government is going to approve five lakh crore rupees for UP in the coming days.”

Notably, in August, Nitin Gadkari had told the Rajya Sabha that India’s road infrastructure will be similar to that of the United States. No shortage of money. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modis, India’s road infrastructure will be the same as the United States by 2024, I promise,” he had said.

“In this Shahabad-Hardorh bypass, from Shahjahanpur to Shahabad bypass, Moradabad-Thakurdwara-Kashipur bypass, Ghazipur-Ballia bypass, in addition to 13 ROBs, a total of 8,000 crore has been approved,” said Nitin Gadkari.

Gadkari also held a review meeting at the Chief Minister’s residence in Lucknow, where all ongoing and proposed National Highway projects in Uttar Pradesh were discussed.

The minister also noted his expectations of the Yogi Adityanath government and asked the state government to introduce air-conditioned electric double-decker buses for urban transport.

BID TO TACKLE AIR POLLUTION

In an effort to tackle air pollution and carbon emissions, Gadkari urged CM Yogi to ensure that the use of diesel and gasoline is phased out in the state.

“PM Modi has a vision to make India the most powerful economy and that requires good infrastructure,” said Gadkari.

Furthermore, he also advised that stubble generated by agriculture could be recycled to produce bitumen. UP should also follow London’s model for providing transport in the urban areas, he said.
