The Swiss drama series New Heights, originally titled Neumatt, premiered on Netflix last month. Marianne Wend’s emotional drama deals with the sensitive subject of farmer suicides. Since the show’s premiere, some fans have been wondering if New Heights season 2 is coming.
Will there be a new season 2 of Height?
In its home country of Switzerland, SRF released the first season of New Heights on September 26, 2021. However, the show’s worldwide premiere was on May 13, 2022 on Netflix. Speaking of New Heights season 2, there’s no official confirmation about the second season from either the creators or the network. Although the first season leaves some room for the second season, the critical reception of the show has not been satisfactory. Therefore, we will have to wait to find out what the future of the show will be.

How did the first season end?
The finale of the first season of the Swiss drama series ended with some room to continue the story in the second season. Michi chose to stay on the farm for an extended period of time after he broke up with Joel indefinitely at the end of the first season. Martin’s caravan was Katharina’s fantasy destination. Although she couldn’t sell the property, she was free to come and go as she pleased as long as Michi was present. Sarah’s last scene, in which she becomes separated from Angie and her family, was also a source of discussion.
While not many details are known about the New Heights season 2 plot, we can assume that upon its return, the show could pick up the story after the events of the first season. In the next season, we’ll learn what’s next for Michi, who wants to make a new attempt at farming life after Joel’s divorce. At the same time, the second season will also follow other characters such as Martin, Katherine Joel and others on their own journey.

Is it a true story?
The drama ‘New Heights’ is not inspired by actual events. However, the story becomes more authentic and grounded as it documents events in our own reality rather than constructing a fictional universe. The series was conceived by Marianne Wendt after a concept by the well-known Swiss-Italian director Petra Volpe, who wrote films such as “Dreamland” and “The Divine Order”.
The concept sprouted when Volpe began to worry about the rising suicide rate among small and medium-sized farmers. The Wyss family speaks on behalf of Swiss and international farmers and their families, who are dealing with such losses while in debt.
