Xbox users hoping to enjoy solid playtime over the weekend were thwarted on Saturday after an outage that lasted about nine hours. Microsoft released a tweet around 4 p.m. ET on Saturday acknowledging that some users were unable to purchase and launch games or participate in Cloud Gaming sessions. The Down detector service also logged in a spike in error reports around that time.

Players could have switched to physical discs (if they had a console that even had a disc slot) or, in theory, they could have played offline. But, like The edge reports, even playing offline didn’t work for some users.

Microsoft posted an update around 1 a.m. ET on Sunday, stating that users should no longer experience these issues, though Downdetector notes a flurry of new complaints that continue through Sunday morning.

In fact, aside from player frustrations, this was the second Xbox network outage so far this weekend. Xbox had a similar outage that started late Friday afternoon and extended into Saturday morning, with Microsoft also warning about issues launching and purchasing games and launching Cloud Gaming sessions at the time. In addition, Microsoft admitted that some users also struggled to access streaming apps such as Netflix and Disney+ during the previous outage.

Microsoft claimed to have fully resolved Friday’s outage at 1 p.m. Saturday, about three hours before user complaints began to mount again.
